Today, the SFMTA launches a year-long public outreach process for San Francisco’s Active Communities Plan (ACP)! This is the start of an important, collaborative effort to improve biking and rolling in San Francisco—and we hope you’ll join in!

Our first outreach event will be the Bayview Black History Month and Lunar New Year Celebration this Saturday, January 28 at the Bayview YMCA. For more details and to see additional upcoming opportunities to share thoughts about biking and rolling in SF, visit SFMTA.com/ActiveCommunities.

Some background on the Active Communities Plan: This is an effort to update San Francisco’s bicycle master plan for the first time since 2009. A lot has changed in the last 13 years: people use the bike network for all kinds of travel, including scooters, skateboards, powerchairs, and other electric mobility devices; people need better and safer places to ride; and many communities have concerns about the implications of these changes. The Active Communities Plan will create a new roadmap for meeting these needs and implementing community-led visions for active transportation.

Public outreach for the ACP spans all of 2023, with more than 54 events planned across the city, focused and unique conversations led by community-based organizations in six equity priority neighborhoods, a range of interactive webtools, and project materials translated in Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino. In the first half of the year, our team is focused on understanding the values, challenges, and needs of residents across the city.

Make sure you keep an eye on your inbox for further updates on the ACP and outreach opportunities! We welcome questions and feedback at ActiveCommunities@SFMTA.com.
