L Taraval Improvement Project Work Forecast for Week of July 4, 2021

With community support and collaboration from city partners, the SFMTA has successfully completed Segment A of the L Taraval Improvement Project. Construction of this segment started in September 2019 and was completed on schedule and within budget.

The SFMTA would like to thank Sunset neighbors, local businesses and community stakeholders for their support and partnership in shaping and completing this project.

• Staging area demobilized to fully open Lower Great Highway:  Crews are currently cleaning up and demobilizing the staging area between Taraval and Ulloa streets. The northbound lane of Lower Great Highway will be fully open to vehicular traffic the week of July 4.
   
• L Bus serves regular stops: The L bus will continue to serve the regular stops between Embarcadero and the SF Zoo. Since mid-May, all subway stations have reopened for the N Judah and KT Ingleside Third train service. The L customers now have an option of transferring between L bus and KT train at West Portal station. As the L bus is not serving Forest Hill Station anymore, customers can transfer to 44 O’Shaughnessy to access that station.

Our work in the first phase has improved the L Taraval track system and infrastructure between Sunset Boulevard and SF Zoo with close collaboration between the SFMTA, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and San Francisco Public Works. Upgrades to this vital corridor that help the community thrive include:

• Rail track and overhead line replacement
• Water and sewer line replacement
• Surface repaving
• Curb ramp upgrades
• Concrete boarding islands and pedestrian bulbs
• Traffic signals
• New trees and landscaping

While celebrating the completion of Segment A, we are gearing up for Segment B that will make the same improvements from Sunset Boulevard to West Portal. Construction is anticipated to start in early 2022 through the end of 2024.
