The 3rd Street Transit and Safety Project is implementing improvements for transit to reduce bus delays and improve safety for people walking. Beginning September 21, crews are scheduled to work on the block between Brannan and Bryant streets and will relocate the transit-only lane, upgrade traffic signals and make pedestrian safety improvements such as upgrading crosswalks. Work includes street grinding, paving, painting and replacing traffic signals.
The following two-week construction forecast is subject to change due to weather delays or unexpected field conditions.
Daytime Work (between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)
Grinding and paving work on the transit-only lane is scheduled to take place over the weekend of September 21 and 22 to minimize traffic disruptions. During the week of September 30, traffic signals are scheduled to be replaced, traffic lane lines removed and crosswalks painted.
Night Work (between the hours of 1:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.)
During the week of September 30, traffic lanes will be re-painted over the course of 1-2 nights to minimize traffic disruptions. During this time, neighbors can anticipate construction-related lighting and low-level noise as crews re-paint traffic lanes.
