Twin Peaks Tunnel Weekend Overnight Closures

This weekend will be the last of two planned temporary overnight closures to the Twin Peaks Tunnel including West Portal and Forest Hill stations. These closures are similar to those on previous weekends and only in effect when ridership is low, late at night and early in the morning. Bus shuttles will be provided for the KLM lines and will run while additional work is done. Neighbors should expect minimal disruptions as most activity will be inside the tunnel. For more details, please visit our project page.

Events: Another exciting holiday season is quickly approaching, but this weekend will be relatively quiet with just one big event taking place in the City. The lone bright spot (and we do mean bright) will be the Embarcadero Lighting ceremony on Friday. If you’re looking for other fun activities around the City (or the greater Bay Area), be sure to review these event calendars to discover what’s going on near you this weekend: FunCheapSFEventBriteSF Weekly and SFGate.

Winter Fireworks and Building Lighting Ceremony

Friday, 4 to 7 p.m.
Justin Herman Plaza

An annual tradition that marks the start of the city’s holiday season, this year’s Lighting Ceremony festivities begin at 4 p.m. with a family-friendly carnival. Then it’s a special presentation of Disney On Ice at the holiday ice rink at Justin Herman Plaza, After the free Disney show, a countdown will lead to the illumination of the four iconic buildings of the Embarcadero Center by over 17,000 holiday lights followed by a fireworks display that will light up the night sky even more.

How to Get There on Muni: Celebrate the official start of the holidays by taking any Muni Metro line to Embarcadero station, the F Market and Wharves or E Embarcadero historic streetcar lines, any Market Street bus route as well as the 1 California, 14 Mission or 14R Mission Rapid routes.

Muni Service Notes: There are no planned service changes for this event, however, routes in the area may experience higher than usual ridership.

Upcoming Holiday Service Schedule and Parking Enforcement Alert:

  • Residential parking permits;
  • Monday through Friday street sweeping;

Black Friday

On “Black Friday,” November 23, Muni will operate on a regular weekday schedule, though there will be no express bus service with the exception of the 8AX Bayshore A Express and 8BX Bayshore B Express routes.

Remember that you can take Muni the entire day for a single $5 fare. The new $5 Day Pass, available on MuniMobile®, is part of Muni’s recent fare changes. The pass is intended to encourage a safe, convenient way to pay your fare and quickly board Muni vehicles, which reduces overall travel time for everyone. The $5 Day Pass is Muni bus, rail and historic streetcars only.

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Thursdays for a look ahead to the weekend. Check out our Weekend Traffic & Transit Advisory for more details.
