2022 Bike Count & Data Update

This report shares useful data on the state of bicycling in San Francisco over the past five years, with a focus on 2021 and early 2022 data. The data summary shows that while counted bike volumes dropped substantially in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID, counted bike volumes in 2022 are the highest since 2019. In the past several years, bikeshare and bike parking have also grown.

2019 Bike Program Report

This report is a successor to the SFMTA 2013-2018 Bicycle Strategy, which set policy targets to make bicycling a part of everyday life. A lot has changed in the last five years; in 2013 Bay Area Bikeshare was still in its pilot phase, there was no such thing as dockless e-bikes or e-scooters, ride-hailing was in its infancy and San Francisco had not yet adopted Vision Zero. The SFMTA 2019 Bike Program Report provides a background on the policies and directives passed since 2013 that influence our work today.

Pedaling Forward

A glance at the SFMTA's bike program for 2017 to 2022. As more people see their bicycles as a more convenient way to get where they need to go in San Francisco, a network of safer, better bikeways is critical to enable more people to travel through the city with ease. This booklet share our Agency's vision and describes our program to build a better city for biking.

San Francisco Bicycle Strategy

The SFMTA 2013 to 2018 Bicycle Strategy sets new directions and policy targets to make bicycling a part of everyday life in San Francisco. The  Bicycle Strategy is one of several Strategy documents that define mode-specific goals and objectives the Agency will accomplish by 2018 and beyond.

San Francisco Bicycle Count Report - 2015

Since 2006, the SFMTA has conducted bicycle counts at intersections across the City and County of San Francisco. This information has been helpful in making policy and planning decisions because it illustrates where bicycle traffic is highest and where there are opportunities for improvement. The reports details this information in 2015.

Bicycle Parking: Standards, Guidelines, Recommendations

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) installs and authorizes the installation of bicycle parking within the city’s public right-of-way. This document, the SFMTA Bicycle Parking Standards, Guidelines, Recommendations (“Guide”) provides standards, guidance and best practices for bicycle parking planning and implementation in San Francisco.

Guidelines for Accessible Building Blocks for Bicycle Facilties

The City of San Francisco’s Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), Mayor’s Office on Disability (MOD), San Francisco Public Works, and Planning Department have jointly developed the following guidelines for the design and construction of separated bicycle facilities in the City of San Francisco. Specifically, these guidelines address accessibility for seniors and people with disabilities along streets with separated bicycle facilities. The guidelines are part of the City’s effort to make the public realm accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.
