Last week, we removed overhead wires from Valencia Street between 16th and 17th streets. These overhead lines power Muni but are no longer needed here. Removing them makes it easier for the Fire Department to use ladders in this area. This work took over 40 people over two evenings last week. Since these intricate wires can hold up to 3,000 pounds of tension, removing them had to be very carefully coordinated! Crews had anticipated shutting down the area for 12 hours each night but were able to do it in under 5 hours the first night and under 2 hours the second night, returning Valencia to normal sooner than anticipated. We appreciate your patience as we finished the most disruptive part of construction.
Unrelated to our work on Valencia, a sewer line between 16th and 17th streets unexpectedly broke last week and crews from SFPUC are on the scene. Emergency repairs are expected to be finished by this Wednesday, April 30. There may be heavy machinery and digging work, as well as detours in place.
Those traveling on the corridor are advised to stay alert and allow more travel time during construction. You may want to consider traveling on parallel streets during construction. Signage and flaggers will direct people on bikes and in cars.
The work listed below is scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

La semana pasada, retiramos los cables eléctricos aéreos de la calle Valencia, entre las calles 16 y 17. Esos cables suministran energía a Muni, pero ya no son necesarios en esta zona y el haberlo retirados permitirá que el Departamento de Bomberos pueda utilizar las escaleras aéreas. Aunque no está relacionado con nuestro trabajo en la calle Valencia, la semana pasada se rompió de forma inesperada una tubería de alcantarillado entre las calles 16 y 17. Los trabajadores la Comisión de Servicios Públicos de San Francisco (SFPUC) ya están trabajando en el lugar y se espera que las reparaciones de emergencia terminen el miércoles 30 de abril. Durante este tiempo, podría ser necesario usar maquinaria pesada, hacer excavaciones y establecer algunos desvíos en la zona.
Se recomienda a quienes se desplacen por esta área que se mantengan alerta y dispongan de más tiempo para desplazarse durante las labores de construcción; también pueden tomar vías paralelas. Habrá señalización y personal dirigiendo a quienes transiten en bicicletas y vehículos.
