UPDATE: On October 15, 2024, the SFMTA Board of Directors approved a proposal to install new stop signs and make changes to some Muni stops on Church Street in Noe Valley. Implementation of these changes is expected in the fall of 2024.

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback as part of the engineering public hearing meeting on September 6, 2024 and at the SFMTA Board meeting. We appreciate all of the public comments and feedback, both during the meeting and over email.

We heard several themes in the feedback we received, including support for the new all-way stop sign at 28th and Church streets, as well as both support and opposition for the transit stop changes. We will continue to monitor safety and transit operations on Church Street after the changes go into place to identify any necessary adjustments.

The agency will soon be making the following changes:

  • At Church and 28th streets, the existing 2-way stop sign will change to a 4-way stop sign, to help reduce vehicle collisions and improve safety.
  • The existing Clipper Street stops will be moved to 26th Street and the 27th Street stops will be relocated to 28th Street.

Once these changes take effect, the J Church will stop primarily at even numbered streets and the maximum spacing between stops on Church Street will be reduced from 1,590 feet to 1,170 feet. These approved changes aim to improve customer access and transit reliability along the corridor for J Church riders by providing a more intuitive and predictable pattern of Muni stops, and by paving the way for future Muni Forward transit reliability projects.
