Holiday Service Schedule and Enforcement Reminder:

This Monday, the Dr. King holiday, Muni will operate on a Saturday schedule.

Also on Monday, seven-day street sweeping and parking meters (including those meters on Port of San Francisco property) will be enforced. Residential permit, Monday through Friday street sweeping, and commuter tow away will not be enforced. For complete details visit the holiday enforcement schedule webpage.

A voice that still resonates, words that remain as powerful as the day they were spoken, and a legacy that will forever inspire and encourage — this weekend cities across the country, including here in San Francisco, will take time to remember and honor the life and work of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK2016: The Reality of the Dream

Sunday through Monday


Yerba Buena Center

Over two days at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, this year’s celebrations, presented by the NorCalMLK Community Foundation, will include the fifth annual Liberation Film Festival which will screen several short-format projects and human interest documentaries, the Black Comix Arts Festival highlighting African-American creativity, artistry and participation in a highly popular genre, a children’s program designed to educate younger generations about Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement, music and poetry on the lawn in Yerba Buena Gardens, and much more.

For those who plan to join the festivities, Muni service on the 8 Bayshore, 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 27 Bryant, 30 Stockton, 45 Union/Stockton plus the Muni Metro to Powell Station as well as the F Market or any Market Street route to Powell and Market streets will get you to the area.

Muni service note: Muni service may see minor delays due to increased ridership.

MLK Parade Parade/March

4th and King

Monday, 11 a.m

This year’s one-and-a-half mile commemorative march, honoring the Civil Rights Act of 1965 and the famed Selma to Montgomery march, will begin at 4th and King streets travelling east along 4th Street onto Channel Street then will turn up 3rd Street crossing the Lefty O’Doul Bridge continuing west on 3rd Street culminating at the Yerba Buena Center on Howard Street.

Special Muni bus shuttle service will be available between the Caltrain Station at 4th and King streets and Yerba Buena Gardens from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those who are participating in the debut ride of Caltrain’s new Celebration Train but are unable to participate in the march.

Muni service note: Muni routes/lines in the vicinity of the march may be subject to delays from around 11 a.m. to noon.

We are honored to collaborate with the event organizers, the NorcalMLK Foundation, to provide commemorative Muni Celebration Train Passes for the March to Freedom celebration. The passes will be valid on all Muni buses and trains, except cable cars, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Construction Reminders:

The Muni Metro subway continues to close early each night at 9:30pm for system upgrades. Metro bus shuttles will operate between St. Francis Circle and Market and Spears streets from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Wednesdays for a look ahead to the weekend.
