Striping Drawings Disclaimer

The documents on this site represent the latest striping drawings for streets in the City and County of San Francisco (SF). The City does not guarantee their accuracy. Users must verify conditions and measurements in the field for the most accurate up to date information. Other agencies (such as Caltrans, Port of SF, and the SF Recreation and Parks Department) share jurisdiction and may maintain striping records on certain streets. Refer to the Blue Book for those locations. If the SFMTA does not have striping records for these locations, you may contact those agencies for striping drawings.

When available, these drawings must be used as a base for Special Traffic Permit application drawings. To assure the fastest turn-around for permits, the City requires using them as a background for showing construction zones rather than re-drawing roadway striping. Mark the limits of the work zone/lane closure requests directly onto these striping drawings and provide all applicable dimensions/widths.

Striping drawings records exist for any street that has lane line striping upon it (this includes centerlines, lane lines, roadway messages and arrows). If a drawing does not exist for the street you are looking for, try instead looking for a striping drawing for a cross street. Note that when looking for intersection striping, you should look for drawings for all streets that connect to the intersection. (For example, at Larkin and Market, one should download drawings for “Market”, “Larkin”, “Hayes” and “9th St” in order to view the most accurate picture of this intersection.

Caution

Striping drawings do not contain the following features: Stop messages; bus stop boxes and messages; and Muni markings. Applicant must make note of these features.
Cross street striping is not detailed on main street drawings and may have inaccuracies. For example, on the Market Street drawing, you may not find all the details for the 9th Street approach (including some intersection messages and marking details). You will need to consult the cross street records and field check the intersection.
