N Judah Layover Pilot

Введение к проекту (Project Introduction)

The N Judah is one of San Francisco’s busiest Muni Metro lines, connecting residents from Ocean Beach through the Inner Sunset to Downtown. We are exploring this layover adjustment to understand its impact on train schedules, operator breaks, boarding efficiency and community access.

This pilot is part of our ongoing effort to improve the function of the intersection and support local businesses. At the request of community partners, we are are exploring a new layover location for the N Judah. During the test period, N Judah trains will layover on Judah Street between La Playa Street and 48th Avenue. The current turnaround point and north/south traffic restrictions on La Playa Street will remain.

Customers who need level boarding with no stairs may board the N Judah at the accessible platform at the Judah and La Playa streets southeast corner. The pilot location is not accessible to customers using mobility devices.

Pilot Details

  • Duration: Thursday, January 23 - Sunday, January 26
  • Location: South side of Judah Street between 48th Avenue and La Playa Street
  • Time: Trains will take layovers as scheduled during 6 a.m. – midnight.

Expected Community Impacts

While this pilot aims to improve access to local businesses, it will have temporary impacts on the surrounding neighborhood.

  • Driveway access: Driveways on Judah Street’s south side may be temporarily blocked while trains layover.
  • Street parking: Some street parking may be temporarily restricted to allow train layovers.
  • Noise and light: Trains on layover may contribute to slightly more noise and light between La Playa Street and 48th Avenue.
  • Accessible stop: Riders that need level boarding with no stairs will continue to use the ramp and platform on Judah and La Playa streets. They may wait on the platform to board or request the operator to exit a train.

Community Feedback

We encourage residents and local businesses to share feedback on how this pilot affects access and convenience. The input collected will play a crucial role in evaluating the pilot’s effectiveness and in planning for any adjustments.
