The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for the week from Thursday, Feb. 27 through Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

Event at Chase Center
Saturday, March 1 to Tuesday, March 5: There will be multiple events to take place at the Chase Center:
- Saturday, March 1: Chase Center will host a West Coast Conference showdown between the University of San Francisco (USF) Dons and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Game will start at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 4: Performance by Deftones will take place. Show will start at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 5: Performance by Tyler, the creator will take place. Show will start at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Supplemental Muni Service
- Muni will operate supplemental 78X Arena Express service.
- Pre-event express shuttle service from 16th Street BART Station to Chase Center will start two and a half hours before each game/event and will end one hour after game/event starts.
- Post-event express shuttle service from Chase Center on 16th Street to 16th Street BART Station will run until the area clears.
Special Event Parking Rates
During basketball games and other major events with more than 10,000 expected attendees at the arena, parking meters close to the arena will charge a special event rate of $11 per hour. These rates help reduce congestion and keep parking spots available in the neighborhoods near the arena, discouraging circling for free or cheap parking. Start times for special event rates vary based on the start time of the event. More information on special event parking regulations can be found on www.sfmta.com/special-event-parking.
Street Closures
To accommodate events that will take place at the arena, the following street closures will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event:
- 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Northbound 3rd Street between 16th Street and Warriors Way will also be closed approximately 30 minutes before and 45 minutes after an event.
- Only local access will be allowed on Northbound Illinois Street between Mariposa and 16th streets.
No Parking Zone
To facilitate loading and pick up for Muni customers and patrons, NO PARKING will be in effect at these locations during events:
- 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Between the 500 and 700 blocks of Terry Francois Boulevard (TFB)
Taxi Stands
There is one taxi stand located on southbound Terry Francois Boulevard.
Ramp Taxis should use the loading zone on eastbound Warriors Way at Bridgeview Way.
Other pickup/dropoff locations near Chase Center
- 4th Street, which connects to Chase Center via the Gene Friend Way pedestrian path on the UCSF campus.
- Owens Street, which also connects to Chase Center via the Gene Friend Way pedestrian path on the UCSF campus.

Chinatown New Year Run
Sunday, March 2: The 47th annual Chinatown New Year Run will begin at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a festival in Portsmouth Square. For more event details, visit https://chinatownymcachinesenewyearrun.itsyourrace.com.
The race route will begin at Grant Avenue and Sacramento Street, travel north along Grant Avenue, west on Pacific Avenue, north on Stockton Street, east on North Point Street and south-east onto The Embarcadero. The race route will continue along The Embarcadero, west on Washington Street, south on Battery Street, west on Pine Street and north on Kearny Street to Clay Street.
The following street closures will be required from 7 to 10 a.m.:
- Grant Avenue between Pine Street and Pacific Avenue
- Pacific Avenue between Grant Avenue and Stockton Street
- Stockton Street (northbound traffic lane only) between Pacific Avenue and North Point Street
- North Point Street (eastbound traffic lane only) between Stockton Street and southbound Embarcadero
- Southbound Embarcadero (bike lane and one traffic lane only) between North Point and Washington streets
- Washington Street (one westbound traffic lane only) between southbound Embarcadero and Battery Street
- Battery Street (most westerly traffic lane only) between Washington and Pine streets
- Pine Street (most northerly traffic lane only) between Battery Street and Grant Avenue
- Kearny Street (most easterly parking lane and traffic lane only) between Pine and Clay streets
The following street closures will be required from 6 to 11 a.m.:
- Walter U. Lum Place between Washington and Clay streets
The following Muni line and routes will be affected: California Cable Car; F Market & Wharves; 1 California; 8 Bayshore; 12 Folsom/Pacific; 30 Stockton; 39 Coit; and 45 Union/Stockton.
There will be heavy traffic in the area. Muni customers and motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.
CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES
UPDATED: Castro Station Accessibility Improvements Project
Tuesday, Feb. 18 and continuing through Friday, March 7, Castro Station south escalator will be out of commission for two and a half weeks to accommodate construction activities for the Castro Elevator Accessibility Improvement project.
The concrete walkway replacement work will temporarily block access to the escalator on the south side of the station. During this time, Muni customer should utilize the escalator on the North side for accessibility to the station.

UPDATED: Central Subway Water Intrusion Project
Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 26 and continuing through Friday, March 14, the Central Subway tunnel will be closed while crews work to resolve water intrusion issues at the Chinatown-Rose Pak Station.
During the closure:
- Chinatown-Rose Pak, Union Square/Market Street, Yerba Buena/Moscone and 4th & Brannan Muni Metro stations will be closed.
- There will be no T Third Street train service between Chinatown-Rose Pak and 4th & Brannan stations. Instead, a T Bus shuttle will operate between Chinatown-Rose Pak Station and the 4th & King stop.
- The 30 Stockton and 45 Union/Stockton will continue to operate as usual throughout the closure and are good alternatives to the T Bus.
- K Ingleside and T Third Street lines will operate as a single combined KT Train service that runs from Sunnydale to Embarcadero to Balboa Park.
While construction is taking place, crews will use the station closure as an opportunity to complete other work, such as installing public art at the plaza level, plaza roof gutter installation and drainage system restoration.

UPDATED: Valencia Street Bikeway Improvements
Construction has begun on Valencia Street. Crews are currently working on removing the center-running bike lane infrastructure on Valencia between 22nd and 20th streets, moving northwards to 15th Street. Once the center-running bicycle lane has been removed, crews will repave the street, and then install the new side-running bicycle lane.

ONGOING
Cable Car Sheaves Upgrade Project
Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18, crews will be restoring the cable car system sheaves, which are massive, grooved wheels that guide the underground cables through specialized pulley systems.
These upgrades will take place from Tuesday, Feb. 18and will continue through May 2025. During this work,
- there will be occasional closures of individual cable car segments;
- bus shuttles will replace cable car lines where work is being done;
- at least one cable car route will remain open to the public during normal operating hours while sections are being upgraded.

Masks Recommended
Masks are no longer required, but are encouraged in any SFMTA facilities, transit hubs or on vehicles including Muni buses, streetcars, light rail vehicles or cable cars or in taxis or on paratransit.
ONGOING: Essential Trip Card Discount Program
The SFMTA’s program, Essential Trip Card (ETC) Program, assists people with disabilities and older adults to make essential trips using taxis. The program provides two to three round trips at an 80% discount per month, i.e. rider pays $6 to receive a value of $30 or pays $12 to receive a $60 value. If essential needs require it, riders may receive additional value up to $120 of taxi service per month.
To qualify for the program, customer must be either age 65 or older or an adult with disabilities. Eligible adults may apply for the ETC program by calling the Paratransit Mobility Management office at 415-351-7053.
