Noe Slow Street

Введение к проекту (Project Introduction)

Noe Street from Duboce Avenue to Beaver Street in Duboce Triangle was approved as a Slow Street by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board on December 6, 2022. This corridor had initially been implemented as a COVID-19 Response Slow Street in 2020.

Duboce Triangle District 8 Planning Study

The SFMTA is launching the Duboce Triangle Slow Streets Study to explore opportunities for enhancing safety and connectivity in the Duboce Triangle neighborhood. This initiative responds to community feedback regarding the Noe Slow Street, which currently experiences higher vehicle volumes than the program’s target of 1,000 vehicles per day. Residents have expressed interest in a comprehensive approach to traffic circulation before implementing any traffic diversion measures.

The study will assess the feasibility of transforming segments of Sanchez Street (between Market Street and Duboce Avenue) and Steiner Street (between Duboce Avenue and Waller Street) into Slow Streets. These corridors are part of the city’s existing bike network and could provide a more robust north-south connection for people walking, biking, and rolling. To support possible new Slow Streets, the study will also examine potential traffic circulation changes, such as modifying left-turn allowances from Market Street onto Castro, Noe, and Sanchez streets, to manage vehicle flow and enhance safety.

The SFMTA will collaborate closely with the community throughout the study to ensure that proposed changes align with local needs and priorities. Opportunities for public feedback will be shared once staff begins work by summer 2025. It’s important to note that this is a planning study; any specific proposals identified would advance into a separate design and outreach process following its completion.

Noe Slow Street Evaluation

The SFMTA Project team collects data to assess how each Slow Street is performing against the Slow Streets Program targets:

  • Vehicle speeds at or below 15 mph
  • Vehicle volumes less than 1,000 per day

See the latest evaluation in the “Related Reports & Documents” section on the right side of this webpage. For additional information on how this street compares to others in the Slow Streets program, or for overall program findings, please see the 2023 Evaluation Report.
