Muni LRV 4 Subway Testing Underway (with music)

Hop aboard in this one-minute clip showcasing some of the testing underway for LRV 4. This particular test focused on vibrations and ride quality. For more information on our weeknight and weekend closures, visit www.sfmta.com/testing to plan your ride and learn more our new trains. The Muni Metro Subway will shutdown on weeknights and weekends to test the new light rail trains. Five new train cars were delivered earlier this year and are being prepped to go into service by the end of this year. Before going into service, the new trains need to go through rigorous testing. The SFMTA already started testing on street-level tracks; the next stage of testing will be in the Muni Metro Subway. For these tests, the Subway will close early on weeknights and for four weekends. Testing will begin on Saturday, July 22 (start of regular service) until Sunday, August 20 (end of regular service). This testing window also allows us an opportunity to complete upgrades to the emergency “blue light” phone consoles in the subway tunnel and avoid additional Muni service impacts. Read below for information about how to get to where you need to go during subway shutdowns. For more information about the new trains, visit the New Muni Trains Project page. During subway closure, a bus bridge will operate between Embarcadero Station and St. Francis Circle, making stops at subway stations. There will still be surface train service outside of the Muni Metro subway. Please plan extra travel time when taking Muni during subway closures. Note: Muni will operate on a normal schedule during the weekend of the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, August 11-13, 2017.
