Van Ness Elevator Resumes Service to Muni Customers

Share this:

The new elevator at Van Ness started serving Muni customers

Starting Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, the Van Ness Station platform elevator that has been under construction for upgrades since August will resume service to Muni customers, especially for people with disabilities.

The elevator has been refurbished and upgraded with a new stainless steel cab, new doors and hardware, new hydraulics, new operating panel and will be connected to an electronic monitoring system that will track escalators and elevators 24/7 for operating issues.

This planned upgrade is part of the Muni Elevator Rehabilitation Project, which is modernizing 11 older Metro elevators with modern, state-of-the-art technology. When we’re done, elevators will be safer and more reliable, especially for wheelchair users, seniors, and others with disabilities who benefit from elevator access.

Schedule is pending for the next rehabilitation project.
