The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for the week from Thursday, Jan. 2 through Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.

Downtown First Thursdays
Thursday, Jan. 2: The Downtown First Thursdays (DFT) event will take place on 2nd Street from 5 to 10 p.m. This event will repeat monthly through April 3, 2025. For event details, visit https://www.dftsf.com/.
The following street closures will be required from noon until midnight, Thursday:
- 2nd Street between Market and Folsom streets
- Clementina Street between 2nd and 1st streets
- Jessie Street between New Montgomery and 2nd streets
- Minna Street between New Montgomery and 1st streets
- Natoma Street between New Montgomery and 1st streets
- Stevenson Street between New Montgomery and 1st streets
- Tehama Street between Hawthorne and 1st streets
These intersections will remain open at all times: 1) 2nd and Mission streets; 2) 2nd and Howard streets.
There will be no impact on Muni service.
Events at Chase Center
Thursday, Jan. 2 through Tuesday, Jan. 7: There will be multiple events to take place at the Chase Center:
- Thursday, Jan. 2: The Warriors will play against the Philadelphia 76ers. Game will start at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Jan. 4: The Warriors will play against the Memphis Grizzlies. Game will start at 5:30 p.m. Doors will open at 4 p.m.
- Sunday, Jan. 5: The Warriors will play against the Sacramento Kings. Game will start at 5:30 p.m. Doors will open at 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, Jan. 7: The Warriors will play against the Miami Heat. Game will start at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Supplemental Muni Service
- Muni will operate supplemental 78X Arena Express service.
- Pre-event express shuttle service from 16th Street BART Station to Chase Center will start two and a half hours before each game/event and will end one hour after game/event starts.
- Post-event express shuttle service from Chase Center on 16th Street to 16th Street BART Station will run until the area clears.
Special Event Parking Rates
During basketball games and other major events with more than 10,000 expected attendees at the arena, parking meters close to the arena will charge a special event rate of $11 per hour. These rates help reduce congestion and keep parking spots available in the neighborhoods near the arena, discouraging circling for free or cheap parking. Start times for special event rates vary based on the start time of the event. More information on special event parking regulations can be found on www.sfmta.com/special-event-parking.
Street Closures
To accommodate events that will take place at the arena, the following street closures will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event:
- 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Northbound 3rd Street between 16th Street and Warriors Way will also be closed approximately 30 minutes before and 45 minutes after an event.
- Only local access will be allowed on Northbound Illinois Street between Mariposa and 16th streets.
No Parking Zone
To facilitate loading and pick up for Muni customers and patrons, NO PARKING will be in effect at these locations during events:
- 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Between the 500 and 700 blocks of Terry Francois Boulevard (TFB)
Taxi Stands
There is one taxi stand located on southbound Terry Francois Boulevard.
Ramp Taxis should use the loading zone on eastbound Warriors Way at Bridgeview Way.
Additional Passenger Loading
- 4th Street which connects to Chase Center via Gene Friend Way pedestrian path which cuts through UCSF campus.
- Owens Street connects to Chase Center via Gene Friend Way pedestrian path which cuts through UCSF campus.

Mayoral Inauguration
Wednesday, Jan. 8: Mayor Lurie will be sworn in at an event in Civic Center Plaza and City Hall. The swearing-in activities in Civic Center will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The following street closures will be required:
From 6 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8
- Grove Street between Polk and Larkin streets
From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8
- Dr Carlton B Goodlett Place between McAllister and Hayes streets
- Grove Street between Van Ness Avenue and Polk Street
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8
- Larkin Street between McAllister and Hayes streets
- McAllister Street between Van Ness Avenue and Larkin Street
The following Muni routes will be impacted: 19 Polk, 21 Hayes, 27 Bryant
Chinatown Night Market and Community Festival
Wednesday, Jan. 8: Following the swearing-in ceremony at City Hall, the inauguration festivities will continue in Chinatown with a special night market and outdoor concert, with the Mayor scheduled to give remarks on the stage, as well as attending other events in the community.
The Night Market will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. and the music and speeches will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on the stage at Jackson and Grant.
The following street closures will be required:
From 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7 to 2 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 9:
- Grant Avenue between Washington Street and Pacific Avenue
- Jackson Street between Stockton and Kearny streets
- Beckett Street between Jackson Street and Pacific Avenue
- Wentworth Place between Jackson and Washington streets
From 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8 to 2 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 9:
- Grant Avenue between Washington and California streets
- Commercial Street between Grant Avenue and Kearny Street
From 3 to 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8:
- Ross Alley between Washington and Jackson streets
- Walter U Lum Place between Washington and Clay streets
There will be no impact on Muni services.
CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES
Muni Fare Changes Effective Jan. 1, 2025
Effective Jan. 1, 2025, there are some changes to Muni fares. Changes include both increases and decreases, based on public feedback received during our budget process in spring 2024. For details of these changes, visit sfmta.com/muni-fare-changes (Note: The fares not listed will remain the same.
The Clipper and MuniMobile discount have been reduced from $0.50 to $0.25 to help offset the agency’s rising costs while minimizing the impact on customers. Cash fare remains the same at $3.00.
After feedback collected from the public, these fare changes were included as part of the SFMTA’s 2024-2026 budget, which began on July 1, 2024. For more information, visit our Fares webpage or call 311.
UPCOMING
NEW: Fix It! Week, Early closures for Muni Subway Maintenance
Monday, Jan. 13 through Friday, Jan. 17 (Fix It! Week): Early subway closures are planned to begin on Monday, Jan. 13 through Friday, Jan. 17. The subway between Embarcadero and West Portal will close early at 9:30 p.m. to allow for maintenance work to improve the reliability and performance of the Muni Metro system.
During the Fix It! Week, KLM Bus Suttles will connect all stops between Embarcadero and Saint Francis Circle. The buses will begin to operate at 9:30 p.m. through the normal end of train service at midnight. Owl service will remain unchanged. Trains will resume regular service every morning.
Muni’s service plan during the early shutdowns, 9:30 p.m. to midnight, Monday, Jan. 13 through Friday, Jan. 17 will be as follows:
- KLM Bus Shuttle will serve all Muni Metro stops between Steuart & Market streets and St. Francis Circle. Customers should board bus shuttles at bus stops marked with “JKLMN Metro Bus Sub.”
- K Ingleside and M Ocean View trains will operate between Balboa Park and St. Francis Circle
- N Judah and J Church trains will operate as a combined route between Balboa Park and Ocean Beach for both directions with a switch at Church/Duboce:
- J Church trains will continue to Ocean Beach as N Judah
- N Judah train will continue to Balboa Park as J Church
- N Judah Bus will serve curbside stops between Duboce & Church and Caltrain
- L Buses will operate between West Portal and SF Zoo
- T Third train will run on its regular schedule between Sunnydale and Chinatown

Masks Recommended
Masks are no longer required, but are encouraged in any SFMTA facilities, transit hubs or on vehicles including Muni buses, streetcars, light rail vehicles or cable cars or in taxis or on paratransit.
ONGOING: Essential Trip Card Discount Program
The SFMTA’s program, Essential Trip Card (ETC) Program, assists people with disabilities and older adults to make essential trips using taxis. The program provides two to three round trips at an 80% discount per month, i.e. rider pays $6 to receive a value of $30 or pays $12 to receive a $60 value. If essential needs require it, riders may receive additional value up to $120 of taxi service per month.
To qualify for the program, customer must be either age 65 or older or an adult with disabilities. Eligible adults may apply for the ETC program by calling the Paratransit Mobility Management office at 415-351-7053.
