Residential Parking Permit Application for Caregivers

Caregiver Permit Information

Caregiver Permits are available for the following types of care at residences in Residential Parking Permit areas. 

  • In Home Medical Care
  • In Home Child Care
  • Family Child Care Home employees

Applicant’s vehicle cannot be registered within the RPP area you are applying. The SFMTA will issue one (1) transferable parking permit to a resident of a permit area for use by up to three (3) Caregivers. This permit will be counted towards the maximum four permits allowed per address.

Medical Caregiver Permits

For residents who require home health care service on a regular basis. 

Requirements - submit application along with:

  • Proof of residency within the RPP area
  • Vehicle registration in the licensed caregiver’s name.
  • Completed medical affidavit signed by the resident's licensed physician. (must be updated annually).

Child Care Permits

For residents who require in home childcare for minors 12 years of age and under. 

Requirements - submit application along with:

  • Proof of residency within the RPP area
  • A completed childcare affidavit (must be updated annually).
  • Copy of birth certificate(s) of all children for whom care will be provided. (must resubmit a copy for each child every year to renew this permit).

Family Child Care Home Employees

For employees of Family Child Care Homes licensed by the California Health and Human Services Agency. Applicant’s vehicle cannot be registered within the RPP area.

Requirements - submit application along with:

  • Proof of residency within the RPP area
  • State issued Home Family Day Care license (must be updated annually).

 

If lost, stolen, or adding additional plates, the this permit type is treated as a transfer

Permanent Resident and Business RPP Permit Application

If you are a permanent resident or a business owner in an Residential Parking Permit (RPP) zone complete the online or paper application below. Each residential address may purchase up to four permits, with the exception of areas AA and EE which are limited to two.

If you are active military personnel and your vehicle is registered to another address, please provide proof of active military assignment.  Proof of residency and current registration are also required.

If you are a full-time student at a higher education institution within San Francisco and your vehicle is registered to another addressor, please provide certification from your registrar’s office of current full-time student enrollment (a student ID is not sufficient). Proof of residency, such as a current rental agreement (signed within the last 3 months), and current California vehicle registration are also required (the address on the registration may be an address outside of San Francisco, but must be a California address).

Residents who are assigned a company/business vehicle for exclusive use must provide a copy of the current California vehicle registration in the name of the business or vehicle leasing company and an employment/vehicle assignment verification letter from the company the vehicle is registered to, in addition to proof of residency. Sub leases not accepted.

If you have recently purchased your vehicle and haven't received a new license plate you must provide a completed application, proof of residency, and your Temporary DMV Registration or purchase agreement.

Each household is eligible for up to four permits, with the exception of areas AA and EE, which are restricted to one permit per driver and up to two permits per household.
