Construction of California Pacific Medical Center’s new medical campus on Van Ness Avenue is progressing on schedule. The next big step is construction of a subterranean pedestrian tunnel that will connect the future hospital with an adjacent medical office building also being built.

To construct the tunnel, Van Ness Avenue between Geary Street and Post Street will be fully closed over three weekends (two in April and one in September). Prior to the full weekend closures, one lane of traffic will be closed at night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. The first partial closure is commencing on Monday, April 6, to prepare for a full closure April 10-12.

CPMC and general contractor HerreroBOLDT have worked closely with the SFMTA on traffic management and the timing of the closure. Detours will be in place to direct traffic around the area of impact.

During the 72-hour closures, Muni and other public transit will remain in operations on Van Ness.
