Market Street Improvements

Market Street is San Francisco’s premier multiuse historic and commercial corridor connecting neighborhoods and serving as the city’s main transit artery. It’s also an ever-changing landscape that has evolved throughout the history of San Francisco.

The corridor, and its adjacent streets and neighborhoods, are densely populated and busy with people taking transit, riding bicycles, walking and driving. As our city grows, numerous projects will help us improve Market Street’s aging infrastructure and adapt to changing conditions. We are continuously working to make Market Street and its surroundings better.

Because of the nature of Market Street, projects on the corridor often involve multiple city agencies working in partnership, with one agency in the lead, such as the San Francisco Department of Public Works (Public Works), the San Francisco Department of Planning (SF Planning), the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), the SFMTA and other regional transit agencies like Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).
