Dear Taxi Industry,
We are pleased to announce some new and on-going initiatives to help support the Taxi Industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clean Air Taxi Rebate: The SFMTA’s Clean Air Taxi program has increased the per vehicle rebate up to $7,700 and used vehicles are now able to qualify (go online or download the pdf for more details). Over 90% vehicles in the taxi fleet are low-emission and play a critical role in meeting the City’s ambitious climate goal of 80% of trips taken by sustainable means of travel by 2030. To request a rebate, please provide the vehicle registration to Danny.Yeung@sfmta.com.
Plastic Taxi Shield: In addition to making personal protective equipment (PPE) kits available to all taxi companies for distribution to drivers, SFMTA has procured clear plastic shields for vehicles. This plastic shield is easily installed inside the vehicle, separating the rear and front seats, adding a layer of protection for both the driver and passenger. This will help to instill confidence in drivers and passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The SFMTA has provided these plastic shields to all color schemes at no charge, please email Samantha.Rebelos@sfmta.com for information.
Annual Sworn Statements: The 2020 Annual Sworn Statements are due June 1, 2020, and we’re making it easier for medallion holders, dispatch services and color schemes to submit the required documents. All required documents can be submitted by email to Sarah.Hellman2@sfmta.com or by U.S. Postal Service mail: Taxi Services, 1 South Van Ness, 7th floor, San Francisco, CA 94103. Our customer service window is closed to the public.
Forbearance Taxi Driver Renewal Fees: In response to the impact of the COVID-19 virus on the San Francisco Taxi industry, SFMTA will forbear (postpone) the collection of Driver Permit renewal fees during the Shelter in Place Order currently in effect in San Francisco. Taxi Services has requested the waiver of all taxi fees, and that proposal is part of the SFMTA budget process which is still underway. If approved, the A-Card renewal fees will be waived for the remainder of the current fiscal year (until June 30, 2020) and for the next two years of SFMTA’s budget cycle. Drug testing is a federal requirement and is still required for A-Card renewal, and labs are accepting drivers. Drivers can contact sftaxi@sfmta.com for a list of active labs.
Please email SFTaxi@SFMTA.com if you have any questions.
