Pride brings downtown San Francisco to life more than any other time of the year. Every June, thousands fill the streets for a joyful and boisterous seventy-two hours featuring cultural events, marches and parades. No Pride celebration is quite as proud and colorful as our city’s.

For many of us at the SFMTA, our pride is held not just in celebrating in the streets, but in being part of the team that comes together to host this showcase event for our city.

The SFMTA's Pride parade contingent walks down Market Street with a decorated cable car and a banner that reads, "SFMTA is Connecting San Francisco with Pride."

The ability of everyone to participate in and enjoy the revelry depends on an effectively functioning transportation network. Thanks to planning and the hard work of our frontline staff to provide effective Muni service and guide traffic, we transported visitors and residents alike through extra service and strategically-stationed  parking control officers to help guide traffic. To provide the information needed to connect people to their destinations, we provided extra staff at key locations, and blanketed both traditional and social media with information on how to get around, including real-time alerts.

We can’t wait to do it again next year and every year.

A sign posted at a Muni stop on Market Street during the Pride parade tells customers where to find detoured bus routes.

Muni detour signs - just one sign of the effort behind the scenes to create the space for Pride.
