Easier Loading Coming to Ocean Avenue Soon

Beginning the week of January 27, 2025, we will begin converting some parking spaces along Ocean Avenue to loading zones. Between Keystone Way and Plymouth Avenue, we will be adding loading zones on Ocean Avenue as well as nearby on some side streets.

Through merchant and community outreach on the K Ingleside Rapid Project, we heard that double-parking slows down traffic and transit. We heard from business owners that their delivery drivers currently have no better option than double-parking to load and unload goods and passengers. We worked with merchants and residents to identify existing parking spaces to convert to various types of loading.

We will add several types of zones to ease congestion and improve loading for businesses:

  • Two general loading zones: these zones will be painted white along the curb and can be used by any vehicle for five-minute loading or unloading of goods or passengers during the hours posted.
  • Nine yellow (commercial) loading zones: these zones are exclusively for 30 minute commercial loading for trucks and vehicles with commercial license plates during the hours posted.
  • Six white (passenger) loading zones: these zones can be used by any vehicles who are actively loading or unloading passengers during the hours posted.

In addition to these new loading zones, we will also be creating nine new parking spaces on Dorado Terrace. We will create these spaces by converting existing parallel parking to angled parking on the west side of the street.

Additionally, as part of the new California ‘daylighting law,’ we will be painting the curb red at some spaces across the corridor.

These changes are in addition to the new parking spaces that will be created on Ocean Avenue at Westgate Drive and Cerritos Avenue when the existing boarding islands are removed earlier this month.

Project staff will be visiting nearby merchants to discuss these changes in advance of implementation. Additionally, community members can share comments or questions via email at RapidKProject@SFMTA.com or by phone to 415.646.2410.

Expected impacts: we do not expect impacts to traffic, transit service or other parking while we make these changes.
