Public Hearing: West Portal Station Safety and Community Space Improvements – July 16, 2024

A public hearing on the project proposals will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 to take public comment, discuss and vote on adoption of the West Portal Station Safety and Community Improvements’ traffic and parking changes, including:

• Adding safety improvements to enhance visibility, slow down traffic and improve intersection safety at nearby blocks on Ulloa Street, Vicente Street, Wawona Street and Lenox Way.

• Restricting left turns for northbound private vehicles from West Portal Avenue onto westbound Ulloa Street.  

• Restricting left turns for southbound private vehicles from West Portal Avenue onto eastbound Vicente Street.  

• Restricting through traffic for westbound private vehicles on Ulloa Street at West Portal Avenue.  

• Installing a transit lane in the center northbound lane on West Portal Avenue from Ulloa Street to 230 feet southerly and in the center southbound lane on West Portal Avenue from Ulloa Street to 120 feet southerly.  

• Converting Lenox Way traffic to one-way southbound between Taraval and Ulloa streets to improve safety on Ulloa Street.

• Other changes including the removal of the 57 Parkmerced bus stop on Vicente Street at West Portal Avenue, rerouting the 91 Owl and terminal stop and changes to curb designations on portions of Lenox Way and Ulloa, Vicente and Taraval streets.  

The SFMTA Board will be asked to decide whether to approve the proposed changes.

California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Appeal Rights under S.F. Admin. Code Chapter 31: The Planning Department has issued a CEQA statutory exemption determination pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21080.25, which may be viewed online at the Planning Department's website. Action by the SFMTA Board shall constitute the Approval Action for the project for the purposes of CEQA, pursuant to San Francisco Administrative Code Section 31.04(h). Following approval of the item by the SFMTA Board, the CEQA determination is subject to appeal within the time frame specified in S.F.
