L Taraval Improvement Project Work Forecast March 15 to March 26, 2021

• Taraval Street repaving: Due to the inclement weather, the start of street repaving planned for Monday, March 15 is pushed to Tuesday, March 16. To compensate a day lost, we are adding Saturday, March 20 to the paving schedule. Weather permitting, the grinding and paving will proceed as follows:
  
  • March 16-19, south side between 46th and 41st avenues
  • March 18-20 (Saturday) and March 22-23, south side between 41st Ave. and Sunset Blvd.
  • March 23-26, north side between Sunset Blvd. and 41st Avenue
  • March 24-26 and March 29, northside between 41st and 46th avenues

During construction, temporary street closures and parking restrictions will apply where the work is occurring.

To accommodate the paving and street repair work, the L Taraval bus will be rerouted onto Ulloa Street in both directions between 35th and 46th avenues.  The bus reroute was effective on March 8 due to the street base repair work that had to be done prior repaving. The alternate bus stops located on Ulloa Street are parallel to the stops on Taraval Street at:

• Train testing is planned for:
  
  • March 19-20 between Sunset Blvd. and 48th Avenue from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
     
• Reconstruction of sidewalk, curbs and ramps for bulbouts planned for:
  
  • March 15-17 at 40th Avenue, southeast corner
  • March 15-16 between 40th and 41st avenues, south side
  • March 15-16 at 41st Avenue, southeast corner
  • March 15-16 at 44th Avenue, northeast corner
  • March 17 and 18 at 39th Avenue, northeast corner
     
• Construction of boarding island is planned for:
  
  • March 15 between 40th and 41st avenues, south side
  • March 15-18 between 41st and 42nd avenues, north side
  • March 15-16, between 44th and 45th avenues, south side
  • March 15-16 between 45th and 46th avenues, north side
  • March 22-25 between 39th and 40th avenues, north side
     
• Construction of accessible boarding platform is planned for:
  
  • March 15 between 42nd and 43rd avenues, north side
  • March 24-26 between Sunset Blvd. and 38th Ave. 42nd to construct art panels
     
• Reconstruction of street base is planned for:
  
  • March 15 at intersection of  39th Avenue, north side
     
• Widening driveway is planned for:
  
  • March 15-16 between 41st and 42nd avenues, south side
     
• Track replacement work is planned for: 
  
  • March 15-19 and March 22-23 between 46th and 48th avenues
     
• Install overhead wire system is planned for:
  
  • March 14-19 between 46th and 48th avenues (night work)
  • March 14-19 between 37th and 40 avenues (night work)
  • March 21-26 between 37th and 48th avenues around Zoo loop for verifying and adjusting (night work)

Excavation requires jackhammering of the pavement. Dust control measures will be in place to prevent dust kick up from the work.

Heavy vibrations from the shoring and sheet piling work is expected for open trench work.

• Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday to Sunday 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Hours subject to change based on construction needs. 

Some parking will be temporarily restricted in construction zones and traffic lanes will be modified during active work.

For track replacement work, traffic will be detoured at the intersections of 43rd and 42th Avenue at all times of the day until track replacement work along these segments are complete. During active construction hours, parking on both sides of the blocks will be temporarily restricted to give the crew the safety clearance they need to demo and replace the aged tracks in the center of the road and allow eastbound/westbound vehicular traffic. Parking will be returned at the end of each work day along the impacted blocks.  

Since Monday, March 8, due to street repaving and street base repair, the L Bus has rerouted from Taraval Street between Sunset Boulevard and 46th Avenue. The following temporary bus stop changes are currently in effect during service hours:

• Inbound stop at Taraval and 46th Avenue to Ulloa Street and 46h Avenue
• Inbound stop at Taraval and 44th Avenue to Ulloa Street and 44th Avenue
• Inbound stop at Taraval and 42nd Avenue to Ulloa Street and 42nd Avenue
• Inbound stop at Taraval and 40th Avenue to 39th Avenue and Taraval Street
• Inbound stop at Taraval and Sunset Belouvard to Ulloa Street and Sunset Belouvard
• Outbound stop at Taraval and Sunset Belouvard to Ulloa Street and Sunset Belouvard
• Outbound stop at Taraval and 40th Avenue to 40th Avenue and Taraval
• Outbound stop at Taraval and 42nd Avenue to Ulloa Street and 42nd Avenue
• Outbound stop at Taraval and 44th Avenue to Ulloa and 44th Avenue
• Outbound stop at 46th Avenue and Ulloa to Ulloa and 46th Avenue
