The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees transportation in the city, including the Municipal Railway (Muni), today launched its new website at www.sfmta.com. The new site has been redesigned to better serve both San Francisco residents and visitors whether they are traveling by Muni, bike, taxi, car or foot. The new site is easier to navigate and mobile device friendly, designed to work on any smartphone or tablet. It will provide SFMTA customers the tools they need to better access San Francisco’s busy transportation network, anytime, anywhere.
The newly redesigned site is more customer-centric, providing fast and efficient real-time information. It provides home page access to trip planning, Muni service alerts from both 511 and the SFMTA’s Twitter feed, @sfmta_muni, and a “Latest News” section. ‘How-to’ sections offer information such as how to ride the bus or how to take your bike on Muni. The new sfmta.com site also provides extensive maps for Muni, walking, parking garages and taxi stands.
A key improvement to the website, in addition to its mobile adaptability, is the integration of the NextMuni real-time service maps into the Transit section. By clicking on a favorite or nearby Muni route, customers can get arrival information and see the vehicles running in real-time.
Another helpful new feature is the robust searchable Project and Planning section. This section allows customers to find out what is in the works for their neighborhood by searching a menu of SFMTA projects either by neighborhood or by project category, such as transit, accessibility or parking.
“We are excited to launch this new website designed to deliver an improved customer experience by helping site visitors navigate one of the most diverse transportation networks in the world, both at home and on-the-go,” said Ed Reiskin Director of Transportation. “With such a diverse network, the SFMTA requires a clear and engaging website to help our customers and the general public access the city’s many transportation options as well as our various services and projects.”
The new sfmta.com works to help San Francisco residents and visitors make the most of the city on the weekends and after hours. The addition of a new Destinations section provides maps and Muni route details to help San Francisco residents and visitors get to some of the city’s most popular attractions anytime, anywhere.
Additional features:
- Expanded menus from the homepage designed for easy navigation through the site.
- Fresh, inviting new look and tone, featuring the new logo
- Calendar, latest news and upcoming events sections
After 18 months in development, the new sfmta.com is being vetting through extensive outreach to key stakeholders. For the general public, a two-minute video describing the new features and functionality of the site provides a fun and engaging introduction to the new sfmta.com. In addition and coinciding with today’s launch, 3,000 bus cards and Muni Metro banners will go up throughout the Muni system and at the SFMTA Customer Service Center.
The site was designed with web designers Rolling Orange. Rolling Orange designs and develops strategic web solutions for leading government, education, healthcare, and performing arts organizations. Clients include the City of San Francisco, Stanford University, the University of California, and the San Francisco Symphony.
