Last week, the SFMTA Paint Shop finished striping Valencia between 19th and 21st streets. That leaves just the blocks between 15th and 19th streets to finish striping. The Paint Shop also began intersection striping removal work at 22nd and 23rd streets, which will allow them to establish a new intersection layout with painted protected corners that will slow down cars turning right to protect people walking and biking. Crews also completed installing delineators, repainting color curbs and installing new parking meters between 21st and 23rd streets. Temporary signs have also been installed for this week’s two-night shutdown between 16th and 17th streets.
This week, crews are scheduled to work on: overhead lines, striping, meter installation and painting curbs at the locations listed below.
Starting tonight: Street closure between 16th and 17th streets for 2 nights
Valencia Street between 16th and 17th streets will be closed overnight, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. tonight, Monday, April 21 and tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 22. The street will be open and accessible during the day. We will be removing the overhead lines that power Muni, which are no longer needed for Muni operations in the area. Removing the overhead lines will allow the Fire Department to use aerial ladders in case of a fire.
- As part of this roadway closure adjacent intersections will also be affected:
- Tonight, Monday night, April 21, we anticipate that the 16th Street intersection will be closed to cars and bicycles, and that the 17th Street intersection will be open.
- Tomorrow, Tuesday night, April 22, we anticipate that the 17th Street intersection will be closed to cars and bicycles, and the 16th Street intersection will be open. This may change based on work needs.
- Biking and Driving: Detours will be in place. Bikes and cars going north-south on Valencia will need to make a U-turn before the intersection and will not be able to cross at 16th or 17th streets.
- Going north on Valencia: Go right on 17th Street, left on Mission Street, left on 15th Street, then turn right on Valencia and continue north.
- Going south on Valencia: Go right on 15th Street, left on Guerrero, left on 17th Street, then turn right on Valencia and continue south.
- Cyclists and drivers crossing Valencia: Use 15th or 18th streets.
- Loading: If you load during nighttime hours on the street or park in driveways or garages on Valencia between 16th and 17th streets, you will need to make alternate plans for tonight and tomorrow night. Consider parking at the 16th & Hoff Garage, which is a block from the closure area.
- Taking Muni: The 22 Fillmore will be detoured. Signs will direct Muni customers where to board.
- Inbound stop at 16th & Valencia: Board at 18th & Valencia.
- Inbound stop at 16th & Mission: Board at the far side of the intersection instead of the near side.
- Outbound stop at 16th & Valencia: Board at 18th & Valencia.
- Outbound stop at 16th & Mission: Board at the far side of the intersection instead of the near side.
- Walking: Sidewalks will be open for people walking and temporary crosswalks will be set up around the closure area.
Those traveling on the corridor are advised to stay alert and allow more travel time during construction. You may want to consider traveling on parallel streets during construction. Signage and flaggers will direct people on bikes and in cars.
The work listed below is scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
