The Chronicle's Carolyn Said reported this week about the intergovernmental and public-private partnership that will create a West Coast tech incubator in San Francisco's Civic Center. The General Services Administration, one of the lead partners in the project, will be the home of the lab.
We are proud to be part of the launch of SF's Superpublic lab. The Department of Transportation’s Smart City Challenge is a great maiden voyage for the lab as it takes on one of our city's most persistent headaches - transportation.
One idea is to use technology to help make more efficient use of our limited curb space by coordinating deliveries at night at a shared location to keep streets moving during the day.
We were excited to be selected as one of seven finalists in March by the DOT. More information can be found on SF's recently launched Smart City Challenge site. As we explore various innovations, we know the future of transportation in our city needs to be equitable, sustainable, safe and smart.
“As people are getting around in new ways that were once hard to imagine, our cities are on the front lines of change,” said SFMTA Director of Transportation Ed Reiskin. “The Smart City challenge has driven our cities to think ahead of the curve so that we can ensure that innovations help make our cities safer, more accessible, affordable and environmentally sustainable. This support and recognition from the US Department of Transportation is an honor for San Francisco and our peer cities who are paving the way for smart mobility innovations to improve quality of life."
