Bill Graham Menorah Project

Saturday, 7 p.m.

Union Square

In 1975 San Francisco became home to the first big public menorah lighting and Chanukah celebration outside of Israel. Named for the late music impresario, the Bill Graham Menorah Project celebrates the Festival of Lights by erecting the 25 foot tall by 15 foot wide “Mama Menorah” in Union Square. In addition to the nightly lightings, the first Sunday of Chanukah in San Francisco is known as Bill Graham Menorah Day which will be celebrated with music and children’s craft activities.

For information on additional Chanukah festivities please visit ChadbadSF.org.

For those wanting to visit Union Square, the Powell Cable Car lines, 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 8 Bayshore, 30 Stockton, 38 Geary, 38R Geary Rapid, and 45 Union/Stockton routes will get you close to the festivities.

Muni service note: While no service re-routes are planned, service routes in the area may see minor delays due to increased ridership and street congestion.
