Only in San Francisco can you see beautifully restored historic vehicles operating in everyday service alongside a modern fleet. But the SFMTA and Market Street Railway take the historic experience one step further for the annual Muni Heritage Weekend. This year celebrates 75 years of green machines - the environmentally friendly, zero-emissions vehicles that have been part of Muni since its first trolley coaches of 1941. Today's modern fleet continues the tradition with Platinum-level recognition for sustainability by the American Public Transportation Association. Here is a tour of the Woods Cable Car Carpentry Shop in San Francisco. The SFMTA rehabilitates and builds its own parts.
