Van Ness Platform Elevator Scheduled for Upgrade Starting 8/22

Share this:

Starting Tuesday, August 22, the Van Ness Station platform elevator will out of service for six weeks while SFMTA upgrades the unit.

While the Van Ness elevator is out of service, customers who need to use the elevator are encouraged to use the elevators at Civic Center or Church St station to reach the street and take Market Street surface transit to get to and from Van Ness.

The following transit lines connect customers between Van Ness, Church and Civic Center stations:

  • F Streetcars (serves Church, Van Ness and Civic Center)
  • 6 Haight-Parnassus (Civic Center and Van Ness)
  • 7 Haight-Noriega (Civic Center and Van Ness)
  • 9/9R San Bruno (Civic Center and Van Ness)

Ambulatory customers with disabilities may be able to use the station escalators. This planned upgrade is part of the Muni Elevator Rehabilitation Project, which is modernizing 11 older Metro elevators with modern, state-of-the-art technology. When we’re done, elevators will be safer and more reliable, especially for wheelchair users, seniors, and others with disabilities who benefit from elevator access.

The platform elevator at Van Ness will be upgraded with a new stainless steel cab, new doors and hardware, new hydraulics, new operating panel and will be connected to an electronic monitoring system that will track escalators and elevators 24/7 for operating issues.
