The SFMTA is planning to Refresh the T Third south of Evans Avenue, scheduled for the late evening of Thursday, December 19th into the early morning of Friday, December 20. This essential work will address long-standing issues and improve safety, reliability and experience for T Third riders. 

Here’s what the project will include:

  • Replacing damaged shelter glass at 3rd Street & Palou Avenue.
  • Upgrading lighting at the platforms at 3rd Street & Le Conte Avenue.
  • Overhead wire maintenance at 3rd Street & Le Conte Avenue to ensure more reliable train service.

To safely facilitate this work, T Third train service south of Evans Avenue will be substituted with bus shuttles:

  • Bus shuttles will operate between Sunnydale and 3rd & Marin.
  • T train service will run between 3rd & Marin and Chinatown.
  • Bus shuttles will run every 10 minutes and are carefully timed to minimize train transfer delays for passengers.

Muni Service Changes

The work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, and run through 12:30 a.m. on Friday, December 20. The table below will detail the service plans for the T Third Street light-rail and T Bus Substitutions.

Regular T Third Street Line service will resume with start of Friday morning service.

Southbound to Sunnydale		 7 p.m. (Thursday, Dec. 19) to 12:30 a.m. (Friday, Dec. 20) Regular route from 3rd St & Marin St; trains will switchback via 3rd St & Evans Ave, but will not provide service due to the track switch location
  • Use the T Third Bus Substitution; board at the curb adjacent to the corresponding missed T Third boarding island stop
  • Transfer at 3rd St & Marin St, at the curb, to a southbound T Third St Bus; physical signage will be posted at the temporary bus stop
