Sen. Dianne Feinstein Lying in State & Funeral: Oct. 4-5, 2023

Due to a larger than expected security perimeter, today’s memorial service at City Hall is no longer open to the general public. You will be unable to see or hear the program from outside the perimeter.

Event Summary

The late Senator Dianne Feinstein, former San Francisco Supervisor and Mayor as well as US Senator, will lie in state in the Rotunda in City Hall on Wednesday, October 4. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 5, at 1 p.m. in front of City Hall and in Civic Center Plaza. Streets in the Civic Center area will be closed for safety and security and Muni will reroute the 5 Fulton, 5R Fulton Rapid, 19 Polk, 21 Hayes and 49 Van Ness/Mission routes around the area. Read below for further details.

Street Closures

Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, until 2 a.m., Friday, October 6. Grove Street between Van Ness Avenue and Polk Street will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, until 2 a.m., Friday, October 6. Grove Street between Polk and Larkin streets will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, until 2 a.m., Friday, October 6.

The following streets will be closed to traffic on Thursday, October 5, from approximately 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • McAllister Street between Franklin and Larkin streets
  • Larkin Street between Golden Gate Avenue and Hayes Street
  • Grove Street between Franklin and Larkin streets
  • Polk Street and Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place between Golden Gate Avenue and Hayes Street
  • Franklin Street between Golden Gate Avenue and Hayes Street
  • Van Ness Avenue between Golden Gate Avenue and Hayes Street

Muni Service Changes

Muni will reroute around the City Hall/Civic Center area beginning Wednesday, October 4 through October 5. See the table below for the impacted routes and stops.
