As part of the Mission Bay Loop project, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and Mitchell Engineering have been working diligently to reinforce the sewer line along Illinois Street between 18th and 19th streets. The sewer is being replaced with steel-casing around it to allow the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to perform future maintenance and replacement of the sewer without requiring the shutdown of Muni light rail service. This partnership is an ongoing effort to coordinate construction work to minimize disruptions to the community in the future.

Tomorrow, January 20, important work will be conducted from 8 am to 5 pm at Illinois and 19th streets in order to insert the steel-casing before the rains begin on Monday, January 22. The work will require one traffic lane to be open for motorists along Illinois Street between 18th and 19th streets. Flaggers will be posted to help direct traffic and local access to properties along the project site will be maintained.
