NEW: Changes to the 30S Stockton Route
Effective Saturday, March 15, with an ongoing effort to manage financial challenges while maintaining reliable transit service for riders, the SFMTA will adjust Muni Shortservice. As part of these efforts, the SFMTA will implement changes to the 30S Stockton Short route to reduce redundancy while enhancing and maintaining robust service between Chinatown and SoMa.
Key Changes to the 30S Stockton Short Route
Initially, the SFMTA proposed reducing southbound service on the 30S Stockton Short from Post Street to the Caltrain Station, where the 30 Stockton, 45 Union/Stockton and T Third routes already providing service. However, after receiving valuable community feedback, the SFMTA modified the timing and routing of these changes:
- Until Saturday, March 15, the 30S Stockton Short will continue to operate on its original route to accommodate riders during the Central Subway closure for water repair work.
- Starting Saturday, March 15, the 30S Stockton Short southbound will turn left at Folsom Street, left on Third Street, and then rejoin its original northbound route.
- Riders traveling to Caltrain Station can continue using the 30 Stockton, 45 Union/Stockton, and T Third buses.
This change will allow the SFMTA to use the same resources to provide more transit coverage. It does, however, result in slightly less frequent service on the revised 30S Stockton Short route.
Telegraph Hill Boulevard and Coit Tower Parking Lot Reconstruction Project
As part of San Francisco Public Works’ Telegraph Hill Boulevard and Coit Tower Parking Lot Reconstruction project, their agency crew will upgrade streets and sidewalks in the Coit Tower area.
Some of this work will require Muni’s 39-Coit route to be temporarily shortened.
The 39-Coit route will not serve Lombard Street, Telegraph Hill Boulevard or Coit Tower during these times:
- Thursday, March 13 until Friday April 4: To accommodate reconstruction of the outer ring of the parking lot on top of Telegraph Hill Boulevard
- For about five days in April (may not be consecutive) to accommodate street base work and repaving on Telegraph Hill Boulevard
The closest 39-Coit stop to Coit Tower will be at Union and Montgomery streets. To access stop, customers should use the stairs at Filbert Street between Telegraph Hill Boulevard and Montgomery Street.
Riders along the missed segments of the 39-Coit route can use the stops at Stockton & Lombard or Union & Montgomery.
To learn more about the 39 Coit reroute, visit www.sfmta.com/39-coit. For more information on project, visit San Francisco Public Works website at https://sfpublicworks.org.
UPDATED: Central Subway Water Intrusion Project
Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 26 and continuing through Friday, March 14, the Central Subway tunnel is closed while crews work to resolve water intrusion issues at the Chinatown-Rose Pak Station. The tunnel will reopen on Saturday, March 15 at start of service.
During the closure:
- Chinatown-Rose Pak, Union Square/Market Street, Yerba Buena/Moscone and 4th & Brannan Muni Metro stations are closed.
- There is no T Third Street train service between Chinatown-Rose Pak and 4th & Brannan stations. Instead, a T Bus shuttle operates between Chinatown-Rose Pak Station and the 4th & King stop.
- The 30 Stockton and 45 Union/Stockton continue to operate as usual throughout the closure and are good alternatives to the T Bus.
- K Ingleside and T Third Street lines operate as a single combined KT Train service that runs from Sunnydale to Embarcadero to Balboa Park.
While construction is taking place, crews will use the station closure as an opportunity to complete other work, such as installing public art at the plaza level, plaza roof gutter installation and drainage system restoration.
