Muni Service Changes: February 1, 2025

Service Change Summary

Beginning Saturday, Feb. 1, the SFMTA will be making some changes to Muni service. We must reduce service on some Muni routes because of our ongoing financial crisis. Some of these changes were not easy decisions to make. Taking current rider demand and feedback into account, these changes are designed to minimize impacts to riders so that we can continue delivering reliable service, support downtown economic recovery, and address the SFMTA's financial stability.

Weekend Metro Train Service

The K Ingleside and M Ocean View lines will run one-car trains on weekends. This change will help reduce maintenance and cleaning costs for our train cars. The M and K lines experience less crowding on weekends compared to other rail lines like the N Judah and T Third.

Weekday Morning Express Service

The 30X Marina Express returns to help riders get downtown from the Marina during the morning commute. At this time there will be no afternoon or evening 30X service.

Two morning trips on the 1X California Express will be discontinued. We understand this may impact your commute but we had to make these changes due to budget constraints. These two trips were identified as having lower ridership compared with the other trips on the route.

Route Service Change Summary
30X Marina Express

Two inbound trips will depart from Beach St & Divisadero St at 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

The 30X Marina Express will service most previous inbound stops, except for Columbus Ave & Jackson St.

1X California Express

The inbound trips at 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. will be discontinued.

The inbound trips at 7:30 a.m., 8 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. will remain unchanged.

Reduced Weekday Frequency

During weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the 24 Divisadero, 38 Geary, 43 Masonic routes will have reduced service frequency. Currently, these routes do not experience significant crowding during the midday service period.

Route Duration Service Change Summary
24 Divisadero 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Frequency change from 10 mins to 12 mins
38 Geary 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Frequency change from 8 mins to 10 mins
43 Masonic 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Frequency change from 12 mins to 15 mins

Effective March 15, 2025

The 30 Stockton, which runs the entire 30 Stockton route between the Presidio and Caltrain, is the “Long” pattern. The 30S Stockton “Short” provides additional service only on the most crowded portions of the route. Starting March 15, the 30 Stockton “Short” will run between Van Ness Ave & North Point St and Union Square. There are no changes to the 30 Stockton (the long pattern of the route).

This change is happening on March 15 instead of February 1. This is to provide additional Muni service during February and March events. These include the Lunar New Year celebration, NBA All-Star Weekend and upcoming Central Subway maintenance work.

Route Service Change Summary Stop Changes
30 Stockton (Short)

Inbound route will now terminate at Stockton St & Sutter St.

For continued service to Caltrain, riders will need to use either the 30 Stockton (Long), 45 Union/Stockton, or T Third Street Line.
