On March 15, 2021, SFMTA issued notice that all San Francisco Taxis in operation are required to have a protective plastic shield to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. This requirement is in effect until further notice.

The barriers are required to protect both passengers and drivers from the transmission of COVID-

19. Drivers have the option of allowing a passenger to ride in the front seat, but they are not required to do so. Many trips originating at SFO involve four passengers, which requires that one passenger sit in the front seat, which is on the same side of the barrier as the driver. To assist SFO curb staff in pairing parties of four passengers with drivers who are willing to carry passengers in the front seat, any driver who does not wish to take passengers in the front seat shall place a placard in the bottom portion of their windshield on the passenger side.

This requirement will remain in effect until the March 15, 2021 Plastic Shielding Requirement is ended. Please be advised that drivers exercising their right to allow rear-seat only may have to wait longer for a fare if customers approaching the stand are a party of four. If you are a Driver or Medallion Holder and do not wish to carry passengers in the front seat at SFO, please contact your Color Scheme manager or Curbside Management for a placard.
