Terry Francois Boulevard Quick-Build

Project Introduction

Terry Francois Boulevard was identified as a strong candidate for bicycle lanes in the 2009 San Francisco Bicycle Plan and is a key piece of the city’s bicycle network. In summer 2019, the corridor benefited from a quick-build effort to expand the network of safe and comfortable bikeways. Open in time to serve the new Chase Center, this protected two-way bikeway encourages sustainable transportation to games and events, as well as providing people on bicycles and pedestrians an attractive alternative to the busy Third Street corridor. Eventually this quick-build enhancement will form part of the larger San Francisco Bay Trail -- a high quality bicycle and pedestrian route along the entire bay front.

As one of the newest and fastest-growing neighborhoods in San Francisco, with businesses, residences, entertainment venues, and parks, Mission Bay is a proving ground for demonstrating how two-wheeled access can reduce vehicular traffic in vibrant urban spaces. By completing the Terry A. Francois Boulevard protected bikeway as a quick-build project, SFMTA is committed to making this vision a reality.
