Valencia Bikeway Improvements - June 2020 Project Update

Share this:

Thank you for your interest in the Valencia Bikeway Improvements Project.

As the shelter-in-place mandate continues as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the following provides an update regarding the Valencia Bikeway Improvements project.

Northern Valencia (Market to 15th Streets)

The pilot project on Valencia Street from Market to 15th streets, which was constructed in early 2019 will be heard at the upcoming SFMTA Board meeting on June 16th at 1 pm to be considered as a permanent project. Additional details on how to access the SFMTA Board meeting are available here

From this 18-month pilot, we saw that there was a substantial reduction in vehicles blocking the bike lane and a reduction in mid-block conflicts between vehicles and bikes – meeting the overall safety goals of the project. Summaries from the evaluation are available on the project webpage and here.

Southern Valencia (19th Street to Cesar Chavez)

Following the outreach meeting that was held in late February 2020, the project team committed to conducting additional outreach with community groups and merchants on the corridor. As a result of COVID-19, most community outreach has been on hold and SFMTA crews have also been reassigned to emergency related maintenance and construction. As COVID-19 related restrictions are eased and commercial activity resumes, we are committed to restarting this project by engaging with community groups and merchants on the corridor.
