Unity Plaza Start of Construction, December 7, 2015

Share this:

SFMTA and community partners are excited to announce the groundbreaking of Unity Plaza on Monday, December 7, 2015.

Unity Plaza will be an approx. 210-by-65 foot public open space west of the City College Terminal on Ocean Ave. The fully accessible plaza will be landscaped with trees and plants, and include benches, pedestrian lighting, special artistic pavement, a domed climbing structure and photography displays depicting the history of the area. The space will serve as an attractive pedestrian link between Muni's K Line stop on Ocean Avenue to its south, the expanded City College campus to its north and the new City College bus terminal.

Construction Details and What to Expect:

  • The duration of construction is December 2015 through June 2016, weather permitting.

  • The contractor’s available window for working is Monday through Friday, 7-5 p.m.

  • The contractor will use Lee Avenue for access to the site.

  • There will be some impacts to the pedestrian path of travel, specifically along the City College Bus Terminal sidewalk.

  • As with any construction project, some area impacts are expected, including some construction noise and dust. We will consistently work with the contractor to minimize any disruptions to the community and mitigate concerns. There will always be a city inspector on site and a point-of-contact for construction related issues.
