Stop Removal at Ocean Avenue and Westgate Drive/Cerritos Avenue Begins Saturday, September 28

Route(s) Affected

Beginning Saturday, September 28, the K Ingleside will no longer stop at the pair of stops at Ocean Ave & Westgate Dr (inbound to Embarcadero) and Ocean Ave & Cerritos Ave (outbound to Balboa Park).

Map shows the K Ingleside line on Ocean Avenue. The stops at Ocean Ave & Westgate Drive and at Ocean Ave & Cerritos Ave are discontinued. Other stops remain at locations like Ocean Avenue at Aptos Ave, Miramar Ave, Victoria Ave, and Jules Ave.

This permanent stop removal follows the SFMTA Board’s approval of the K Ingleside Rapid Project in March 2024. This change will help achieve the project goals of improving reliability and travel times on the K Ingleside. This pair of stops have the lowest ridership on the corridor. The stops are just a block from the stops at Aptos Avenue, which is closer to destinations like Aptos Middle School and Aptos Park.

The SFMTA has developed detailed policies on stop locations as well as processes for both analyzing the impacts of potential stop removals and gathering feedback from affected individuals. This stop is not a unique point for destinations like shopping, schools, senior centers or transfers to other lines, and riders can still use the stops at Ocean Ave & Aptos Ave, which now include upgraded wider, longer boarding islands.

In the coming months, we will demolish and remove the existing boarding islands at these discontinued stops. We expect that this will add 12 new on-street parking spaces for the neighborhood.

No other stop removals are planned as part of the K Ingleside Rapid Project, but we expect to implement more quick-build improvements later this fall.
