Oversize vehicle overnight parking restriction – pilot evaluation and recommendations

Share this:

In 2012 the Board of Supervisors approved a new parking restriction in the Transportation Code, Section 7.2.54, which prohibits overnight parking of oversize vehicles (longer than 22 feet or taller than 7 feet) wherever the restriction is duly designated and posted. Based on field surveys conducted by the SFMTA, as well as requests and recommendations from community members, Board of Supervisors, San Francisco Police Department an initial set of locations for use of the oversize vehicle restriction was developed in early 2013. These pilot locations were approved after a public hearing by the SFMTA Board at their June 4, 2013 meeting.

Because of the issues raised during the approval of the restrictions, the SFMTA committed to complete a three month evaluation of the pilot program before deciding on any next steps including any expansion of locations requested by community members. The three-month observation period (July 15, 2013 - October 15, 2013) for the initial pilot locations has ended, and the evaluation report and recommendations for moving forward have been compiled and published:
