Letter: April 17 Community Meeting 4/1/13

Share this:

Dear Neighbor:

We hope you can join us and Supervisor David Chiu on Wednesday, April 17, for a community meeting about the Central Subway Project and construction planned for the Pagoda Palace (1731-1741 Powell Street). The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center, 660 Lombard Street.

Since our last communication, we have continued to finalize the plan to retrieve the Central Subway's tunnel boring machines at the Pagoda Palace. At the upcoming meeting, we will update the community on the construction details and respond to questions about the plan.

In advance of the meeting, we would like to respond to concerns that have been raised about the Pagoda Palace plan and its construction impacts, financing and scope. Many of these concerns are based on misleading and inaccurate information. We want to reassure you that the plan is structurally sound and will minimize construction-related inconveniences in North Beach. Specifically, no construction will occur in Washington Square, the buildings near the construction site will be protected, and the financial plan will not reduce Muni’s operating budget.

We have put together a comprehensive FAQ document to respond to these and other concerns and to provide accurate, detailed information about the Pagoda Palace plan. You may view the FAQs online here.

Thank you for your continued participation. We look forward to seeing you on April 17.

Sincerely,
John Funghi
