Winter Greetings!
This update is to inform you about the status of the Sutter Street Quick-Build Project. After careful consideration and thorough evaluation, the SFMTA has decided to pause the project.
Throughout 2024, the SFMTA team worked hard on design options for the Sutter Street Quick Build Project. However, after carefully evaluating design constraints and necessary trade-offs, we have decided to pause the project.
The limited street width creates technical challenges in balancing the need for loading zones, parking, and emergency access while also improving safety.
Furthermore, Muni service change scenarios recently presented to the SFMTA Board of Directors on February 4, 2025 include potential changes to the 2 Sutter route. Given the uncertainty surrounding the future of transit service on Sutter Street, it is important to us that project designs are aligned with future Muni service.
We understand the importance of the Sutter Street Quick-Build Project to the community and are committed to transportation safety in the neighborhood. We sincerely thank the community and everyone who participated in the project outreach. Your input has been invaluable in shaping the design process and evaluation.
