Construction on the Fulton Street Safety and Transit Project kicked off on October 21. Crews are making progress in bringing transit improvements, safety upgrades for people walking and new water drainage infrastructure to the northwestern edge of Golden Gate Park — specifically to the intersections of Fulton Street and Arguello Boulevard, 6th Avenue, 8th Avenue and 10th Avenue.
Soon, crews will make upgrades to curbs, curb ramps, gutters and sidewalks — and lay the groundwork for the installation of new traffic signals — at two intersections: Fulton Street and Arguello Boulevard and Fulton Street and 8th Avenue. Construction will also begin on a new bus boarding pad at Fulton Street and Arguello Boulevard.
Here is what to expect in the weeks ahead.
Work at Arguello Boulevard and Fulton Street
Construction was originally set to begin at Arguello Boulevard and Fulton Street on October 21. However, work was postponed at this intersection because of a scheduling delay.
In the meantime, the project’s contractor performed lower-impact work at Fulton Street and 8th Avenue and Fulton Street and 10th Avenue.
Earlier this week, crews shifted their focus to Fulton Street and Arguello Boulevard. Construction scheduled for the next three weeks includes:
- Reconstructing gutters, curbs, sidewalks and curb ramps.
- Relocating/upgrading traffic poles/signals and the related underground infrastructure.
- Installing a new bus boarding pad at the northwestern corner of Fulton Street and Arguello Boulevard.
During this time crews will be performing work that may result in the disruption of water service to some buildings in the area. If a water disruption is necessary, impacted buildings will receive a notification from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Buses will remain in service, but the bus stop at the northwestern corner of Fulton Street and Arguello Boulevard will be temporarily relocated nearby; on-site signage will redirect transit passengers.
Work at 8th Avenue and Fulton Street
Construction crews are also scheduled to begin work at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Fulton Street on Monday, November 18. Work at this intersection is expected to include:
- Reconstructing gutters, curbs, sidewalks and curb ramps.
- Relocating/upgrading traffic poles/signals and the related underground infrastructure.
The work at 8th Avenue and Fulton Street is not expected to cause any water service disruptions.
