The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) announced an open recruitment for Full and Part Time 9163 Transit Operator positions. Two hiring events will take place at 1 South Van Ness Ave. 6th Floor, on Tuesday, April 5th, and Wednesday, April 20th for those who are currently on the 9163 eligible lists. Representatives for FACES SF, Mission Hiring Hall and Office of Economic and Workforce Development will be available to provide information about the free CityDrive program—an excellent initiative for those who need assistance professional, career development and financial support in obtaining a commercial driver's license permit and Department of Transportation medical examination.
“There is no full recovery of Muni service without transit operators to deliver the service San Franciscans desperately need,” said Jeffrey Tumlin, SFMTA Director of Transportation. “Recruiting operators is key to our ability to restore connections, while increasing frequency on high ridership lines.”
We are recruiting qualified candidates for our 9163 Transit Operator classification to restore Muni service as soon as possible. The key obstacle to restoring more Muni service is staff availability. Since fall 2021 the SFMTA has been hiring and training new cohorts of Muni operators to fill our staffing needs, and we continue to restore service at the pace of hiring. This role with the SFMTA also presents opportunities for professional career advancement in the public service industry. We have invited over 500+ eligible candidates to participate in one of our upcoming hiring events.
At these events, candidates already in possession of the required Commercial license or permit will have their documents reviewed as a part of pre-employment. Candidates who may need to provide additional documentation will be provided personal guidance on what else needs to be submitted to move forward. Such individuals will also be scheduled for necessary fingerprinting, drug testing and medical evaluations to speed up the hiring process. Additionally, individuals who need assistance with obtaining the required Commercial permit will be provided with free guidance on how to obtain one, helping more candidates move from being considered to being hired.
“CityDrive was created to provide opportunity to jobseekers that may face barriers to employment. Through our collaboration with SFMTA, we have created career pathways by providing free training and hands on support,” said Joshua Arce, OEWD’s Director of Workforce Development. “Over 100 CityDrive graduates have gone on to drive for Muni and we look forward to training many more workers to become transit operators over the next several years.”
Over 300 Transit Operator positions are needing to be filled making this a great time to join our team. Apply here today. If you are not available now, but still interested in the next posting or future postings, please go to the Create a Job Alert page in our new applicant tracking system.
We are committed to restoring pre-pandemic Muni service and look forward to meeting interested candidates at our events. The SFMTA will re-open the Transit Operator opportunity for new candidates in April of 2022. In order to be considered, one must be 21 years old with a year of public service or customer service experience and possess a good driving record.
