Location: 4200 Geary Boulevard, north side, 70-90 feet west of 6th Avenue

# of Trees: One (1) Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora)

Posting Period (30 days): From 3/28/2025 through 4/27/2025

SFMTA proposes to remove one tree at the above location. It is the fourth of the group of five trees counting west from 6th Avenue. The tree’s roots are above the adjacent 4200 Geary Blvd building’s new ground elevation so it must be pruned to restore the sidewalk. However, pruning would destabilize the existing tree, which would put it at risk of falling over and create a safety hazard.

SFMTA’s Geary Boulevard Improvement Project is reconstructing this sidewalk and expanding it to construct a bus bulb. This work is being undertaken separately from the rest of the Geary Project to coordinate with the construction of the adjacent 4200 Geary building and minimize construction disruption. However, the new building’s lower elevation caused the need to remove this tree, which would now be required to restore any sidewalk here, even if a bus bulb were not constructed.

To maintain the urban canopy, a minimum of five (5) new trees are planned to be planted nearby.

Members of the public objecting to this action must protest in writing to the SFMTA.  Protests must be made within the posting period, or postmarked no later than the last date of the posting period. Protests can be sent to the following:
