L Taraval Overhead Contact System (OCS)
Beginning on May 31, 2024, the Overhead Contact System (OCS) that powers the trains will be re-energized to accommodate train testing and future train service. To ensure the safety of the public, if you or your contractor are planning any work within 10 feet of the overhead wires, a permit is required.
The OCS consists of overhead conductors, aerial feeders, a direct suspension system supports, foundations, balance weights, and other equipment. The OCS poles provide support and tension for the Muni L Taraval light rail vehicles, as well as for streetlights along the Taraval corridor. These poles play a crucial role in maintaining Muni's Overhead Contact System and illuminating the path of travel for the L Taraval light rail vehicles.
