Staying active by taking a brisk walk? Taking a bike ride through the park? Walking and biking are great ways to get around town. The SFMTA is working towards achieving Vision Zero, an initiative to prioritize street safety and eliminate traffic deaths in San Francisco. This work, through the Safe Streets Evaluation Program, further bolsters the city and agency's commitment in achieving safer streets for all. Here are some of the many ways the SFMTA works to improve walking and biking for people of all ages and abilities in San Francisco.
Walking and Biking
Walking
Everybody is a pedestrian at some point in their journey, whether walking several miles, a few blocks to the bus stop, or to a parking space. Walking not only improves personal health and quality of life, but it also improves neighborhood character, environmental sustainability and economic growth.
Biking
One way we’re making it possible for people of all ages and abilities to bike in San Francisco is by making streets safer and more comfortable for everyone. It’s also more convenient than ever to bring your bike on Muni or rent a bike for a short time.
