Mission Bay Loop Schedule Update

Share this:
Neighborhoods Affected

As part of the Mission Bay Loop project, the SFMTA and Mitchell Engineering have been working diligently to reinforce the sewer line along Illinois Street between 18th and 19th streets. The sewer is being replaced with steel-casing around it to facilitate future sewer maintenance and replacement without requiring the shutdown of Muni light rail service. This partnership between the San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC) and SFMTA is an ongoing effort to coordinate construction work to minimize disruptions to the community in the future.

The project team was close to completing the sewer work and moving towards the next phase of construction involving working on the duct bank along Illinois Street and installing the trackway. However, the project team was recently alerted by a neighboring construction project that it unexpectedly punctured a hole in the sewer line at 19th and Illinois streets and filled that portion of the sewer with concrete. We are currently working with that project’s developer and construction crew to remediate this issue. Consequently, this has caused an adjustment to our project timeline with an expected completion date of winter 2018.
