As of November 12, 2016, drivers are no longer allowed to make left turns from Van Ness Avenue, except northbound at Lombard and southbound at Broadway, a permanent change to the corridor. Another left turn from Van Ness northbound onto Hayes had remained temporarily during construction but has also been permanently removed..
To access nearby city-owned parking garages, drivers may need to adjust their routes. Here are the easiest ways to get around.
Performing Arts Garage (360 Grove Street)
- From US-101 North:
- Take the 9th Street exit toward Civic Center. Take a slight right across Market Street onto Larkin Street then take the first left onto Grove Street. The parking garage will be on your right.
- From I-80 West:
- Use the right two lanes to take exit 1B to merge onto US-101 N toward the Golden Gate Bridge. Turn right onto Market Street and take the second left onto Franklin Street. Then, turn left onto Grove Street. The parking garage will be on your right.
Civic Center Garage (355 McAllister Street)
- From US-101 South:
- Upon entering San Francisco, keep left to stay on US-101, then turn right onto Scott Street. After one mile, turn left onto Bush Street. Turn right onto Gough Street, then left onto McAllister Street. The parking garage will be on your right.
Polk-Bush Garage (1399 Bush Street)
- From US-101 South:
- Upon entering San Francisco, keep left to stay on US-101, then turn right onto Scott Street. After one mile, turn left onto Bush Street. The parking garage will be on your right.
For local trips, remember three right turns make a left turn. Though this may add time and distance to your route, it is a safer maneuver and could end up saving you money in the long run.
