Victims of Stolen and then Towed Cars to Pay Lower Fees to Recover Vehicles

Beginning December 1, 2015, victims of stolen cars that are recovered in San Francisco will be paying lower fees. This new policy will waive all fees for San Francisco residents, and allow for a 48-hour grace period before the contractor’s storage fees begin to accrue. Non-residents of San Francisco whose vehicles are recovered in the city will have the Administrative Tow Fee reduced by 50 percent, and will have a 24-hour grace period before the contractor’s storage fees begin to accrue. A police report must be filed with and verified by the San Francisco Police Department prior to recovery of the stolen vehicle in order to qualify for the waiver.
